Ann Hirsch Sculpture Studio
Watchers, Installation at Dana Hall Gallery
Wellesley, MA
(detail)
ultracal and plaster for bronze
dimensions variable
A sculptural installation with nine three-quarter life size figures that were modelled from life and that reflect Gothic iconography.

The Watchers, who are reminiscent of traditional guardian figures, are in the guise of beings that appear human but somehow miss the mark. These aggressively confrontational figures perch above the viewer’s eye, suggesting mammalian birds ready to pounce while addressing our spatial and psychological relationships to sculptural objects.
