James McHenry, a Signer of the Constitution for the Signer's Hall of the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, PA
James McHenry was a signer of the U.S. Constitution from Maryland, as well as a physician and a Maryland Senator. Ann Hirsch worked as part of a team of 8 sculptors to create 42 lifesize figures in bronze for the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA.
Only one historically accurate portrait of James McHenry was available to use as a reference for this portrait. The challenge was to create a realistic portrait in clay based on scant two dimensional reference material while changing the age and expression of the subject as he was depicted by James Sharples in 1795.
